Free outdoor concert August 15 2015 at 1pm in downtown Ottawa. The Clayton Connell Quartet will be playing jazz, rain or shine, at the corner of Albert and Elgin Street, where the statue of Oscar Peterson plays the piano!
http://nac-cna.ca/en/event/12421 A huge CONGRATULATIONS to Sydney Claxton and Celia Saville for completing their theory exams at the Spring Session of the Royal Conservatory of Music. Celia earned First Class Honours in Basic Rudiments. Sydney achieved First Class Honours with Distinction in Intermediate Rudiments. Their hard work really paid off. I am very proud of both of you! I'm attending an incredible conference in Chicago Illinois this week. Lots of inspiration and knowledge gained from the master classes, seminars, lab sessions and publishers. I can't wait to get home and share these experiences with my piano students! What an unexpected treat! Travelling on Via Rail to Halifax we had the pleasure of hearing a concert by duo Mad For Joy. They played everything from Neil Young to Feist including folk, jazz, railroad songs and Canadian artists. Fine musicians, very entertaining and personable. Check them out at www.madforjoy.ca The Royal Conservatory would like to challenge its participants from across North America to build a video catalogue of pieces in the Celebration Series®, 2015 Edition. Performers are invited to submit videos of themselves playing a piece from the new series. Submit your video for a chance to be featured on the Royal Conservatory’s website and social media channels! Stay tuned for your chance to submit, coming soon. Thank you to The Leading Note for facilitating an awesome workshop yesterday morning in association with the RCM on their new Celebration Series! Dr. Kent McWilliams came all the way from Minnesota to present the information. He was very entertaining and informative and passed along some great teaching tips. I am excited to work with the new syllabus which comes into effect September 2015. leadingnote.com Just spent 5 hours at MIM and didn't see all the exhibits! This is a must see if you are ever in the Phoenix area. Just opened in 2010, there are exhibits of all the countries in the world showcasing their instruments and their musical influences. The audio guide automatically turns on and off as you face each exhibit. And there is much more - exhibits of musical styles, of famous musicians, mechanics, restoration, hands on playing...AND a special exhibit of women in rock and roll. www.mim.org I am so proud of Celia! Congratulations on passing your Grade 3 Piano Exam with Honours. While I haven't been updating my website nearly enough, it has been an amazing year settling into my new home in Kemptville! Thank you to all my wonderful students and supporters.
Between joining the North Grenville Curling Club, and frequenting all my new favourites in downtown Kemptville (Geronimo's and The Crusty Baker especially!) I have really felt welcomed in the community, and am enjoying Kemptville's unique character. As the school year comes to a close, I invite you to register for next September! It may seem far, but the preferred time slots are filling up fast! I will also be offering some lessons in the summer, and I look forward to meeting more of my new neighbours in North Grenville! |
